Cash for your smartphones or laptops… I got $115.00 for my IPhone 3G
Getting a new Smartphone can be a very exciting experience; finding that you can’t take your current Smartphone to your new carrier on the other hand is quite frustrating.
I recently switched from AT&T to Verizon Wireless only to find out I could not keep my current IPhone 3G 8GB. I keep my IPhone in very good shape and it has had a lot of TLC. My next thought was what now? How could I recoup some of the money I had paid for the device?
A friend suggested I sell it on KSL.com and see if I could maybe get $150.00. One day while researching what pertinent information to include with my IPhone ad I came across a website that sounded pretty good. The site is called Cash For Smarthphones. You are able to put in the important information regarding your Smartphone or laptop, dead or alive and you can get an instant quote. One site quoted me $35.00 (which was dissapointing), Cash for Smartphones offered me $115.00 (guess which one I went with,
). Once you get a quote you can request the pre-paid box to send in your phone or laptop for cash. Customers can be paid with a check or PayPal.
I’ve shared this information with a few of my friends and they informed me that they too have been paid promptly for their old or unused devices.

My computer’s alternator is low – Windows unable to detect USB devices
Friday right in the middle of working on an assignment my mouse stopped working, :O(. My first thought is great, my mouse has died and I’ll have to run out and buy another one, grrr. My computer is a laptop and I absolutely hate having to use the touch pad. Before I run out to the store I decided to eliminate a few other possibilities.
1) I try the mouse in another computer, it works fine
2) I unplug my USB hub and plug the mouse directly into the computer. I uninstall and re-install all by USB drivers, tried a roll back of my computer, no go,
(
3) I try the mouse along with my external back up drive, my Iphone and each of my printers in the various USB ports on my computer. The external drive works fine in all of the USB ports as well as the IPhone, however the mouse and both of my printers get zip for recognization.
4) I start Googling the issue, I find a patch/fix on the Microsoft site, reboot my computer and nothing, same problem. I search again most of Saturday and still no solution so I decide it has to be software and since I wanted to clean up my computer anyway, I put it back to factory settings. The install goes great except now I am getting a blue screen error BUGCode_USB_Driver that keeps locking up my computer at boot. I spend a good part of Sunday looking up the new error and just about the time I resolve that I need a new computer (I’m thinking it has to be the motherboard on my computer by this time), I stumbled across the fix.
The motherboard of a computer can be compared to the alternator of a car. There can be times when its giving power but not enough to run certain functions or it seems to have forgotten how to power up certain devices.
See the solution to USBs MIA: Link to where I found the answer – http://www.spillingcoffee.com/2008/07/30/fixing-that-usb-device-not-recognized-error-in-windows-vista/
1) Power down your computer then unplug it from the wall.
2) Plug your computer back up and power it on. Once you reach your Windows desktop the computer will re-install the correct software for your USB drivers and wah-la all of your USB ports should now be working again,
).
To happy computers

Vision boards…. some times you have to see it to achieve it
Do you have tools to help you see your dreams or visions?
About a month ago I attended a dream board party (some call them vision boards). Everyone brought with them a piece of poster board, a glue stick and magazines. Our host provided beverages, cheeses, fruits and crackers for us all to enjoy.
The purpose of the party it to find things from the magazines that represent some of your feelings or life’s goals. My vision board has a few things on it that will probably make you scratch your head so I’ll explain them.
1) I have lots of happy or feel good words as for the most part even with out achieving anything on my vision board I am happy with my life.
2) Lots of travel pictures on my vision board. Rome, Egypt, Africa, Australia are just a few of the places I would like to travel. Oh and the Disney Cruise, I’ve always wanted to do one of those!
3) The clothing represent me after I get back into shape.
4) The guy with the “I won the Powerball”, well that one is self explanatory,
)
5) The restaurants are travel and good times with family
6) One of my possible dream houses
My vision board is hanging on the wall in my office. Its something I can look at every day to help me remember where I want to go. This is just the beginning of my vision board, I plan to add on things as time goes by.

How to host a dinner party with pets
I went to a dinner party this past Saturday with nine other guest. The party was relaxing and enjoyable for the most part. My only issue was there was pet hair every where. I experienced pet hair on a few of the items that were served
(
Years ago I was the owner of two cats. One long haired cat and one medium haired cat. I hosted a few holiday dinners and parties at my home and I always made sure that there was no pet smell or pet hair to interfere with my guest having a good time.
For those who are pet owners and are planning a party of any kind in the near future, here are a few pointers to assure your guest do not have pet hair in/on their food or on any of their eating utensils:
1) If you aren’t already doing this, one to two weeks before your event you should be vacuuming your entire home every day to rid it of pet hair.
2) Invest in a really good lent brush or some sort of pet removal tool for your furniture (nothing like getting up to leave and finding pet hair all over your clothes). Do the same as with the vacuuming and start treating your furniture one to two weeks before your event to remove all pet hair.
3) If your pets have free roam of the house clean all areas in your kitchen such as glasses, silverware, pots, pans and dishes to assure they are free of pet hair (you’d be surprised how many people do not realize the places pet hair can get). Also I am sure it is not your intent to serve your guest food with pet hair on it.
4) Do the hand fan test. Using either a hand held cardboard fan, a magazine or even a piece of cardboard, fan all of the above mentioned areas to see if any pet hair floats around. If you can still see pet hair floating around you are not ready to serve guest food from your home!
5) Pet smells: Your guest should not smell your pets when they open your front door. With my cats I had a closed litter box with a charcoal filter in a room not used by my guest. When I sold my house my realtor says she did not know I had cats until she saw them walking around.
6) Pets at the dinner or not? For me this is a no-brainer. Pets should not be permitted to roam free for any event when a meal of any kind will be served for guest (this includes picnics, parties, etc). Pets should be either kenneled or kept in a room guest will not visit. Free roaming pets defeat the purpose of getting rid of all the pet hair anyway.
7) Lastly if you are not good about cleaning up behind your pets or pet hair, hire someone to do a thorough job the day of your party, your guest will definitely appreciate it!
Happy partying

Would you like fries with the dirt from under my nails?
I have to apologize up front if I rant a little on this topic, its just one that drives me nuts. My friends who see this post on FB are going to laugh as they know how nuts I get about people being careless when they are handling food for others.
Here’s a little tidbit for you. A few years back here in Utah they tested the lemon slices at restaurants, guess what ? Two of every three restaurants who were tested had fecal matter found in small amounts on their lemon wedges. This is poor hand washing at its best. I’m sure this is not just a Utah thing, lol. . . Hold the lemon in my drink please, ;op
First I have a couple of questions for you:
1) Is it ok to cook with jewelry on your hands and no gloves??
2) If you don’t wash your hands and you put on gloves are your hands now clean??
3) Is it ok to touch any part of your body while cooking as long as you have on gloves( example: brush hair out of your eyes, scratch your hair, arms, face, etc)?
4) Is it ok to lick your fingers while handling the utensils being used to serve the food for the buffet???
So here is what started this rant for me today. I wanted a burger from one of the local shops. The guy working the grill walks out from another room while taking his ear buds out of his ears. I tell him I want a hamburger, he goes to grab the meat patty. I said whoa, aren’t you going to wash your hands and put on gloves. He says um, ok, sorry. … I’m not gonna eat there again

A few weeks ago I was at the Rumbi off of State Street here in Utah for a business lunch. They were pretty busy and had quite a wait for food. This Rumbi has two sections for taking care of the food; the area with the cash register, food wrap/bagging area and the cooking area. While I’m waiting a guy walks in from off the street for his shift. I’m standing there thinking, watch this guy apron up and start cooking with out washing his hands. Yep that is exactly what he did. He pulled his jersey over his head to reveal his work shirt, grabbed a pair of gloves with his dirty hands and then proceeded to help with the cooking. In the mean time the young lady who is putting all the sauces on the rice bowls and the tops to cover the food proceeds to push her hair out of the way of her eyes at least four times.
I got one of the counter reps to get the manager for me. I was amazed at no hair nets and no request from him for the new guy who just walked in to hit the soap before he picked up a single cooking item! They’ve been checked off my list of places to eat.

Ok, I still cringe from this one. Some friends and I went bowling and decided to get lunch at the bowling alley. First big no,no is the women who takes the order and cooks your food has a cold sore on her mouth. Anyway I am standing at the counter waiting to order, she has her back to me so she does not see me standing there. She’s got a couple of grilled cheese sandwiches cooking on the grill. She proceeds to use her fingers to help flip the first sandwich, lick her fingers and then proceeds to flip the next one. My mouth fell open. She got the sandwiches all plated and took them over to a family who had ordered the sandwiches for their kids. I was speechless, all I could think is should I go tell the family to take back their order or should I keep my mouth shut and not cause a scene??
I didn’t approach the family, however I was going to make darn sure she was not cooking my food. I asked to speak with the manager and to have someone else cook my food and to make sure they washed their hands before they started cooking.

Ok, last one, this one is not a cooking story but is still along the same lines. As a gift basket consultant we have times when we have large orders and have all the baskets lined up like an assembly line to get them done quickly and efficiently. A few years ago we were all sharing how tired we were during the holidays with all the orders coming in. One gift consultant shared how she had found basket shred in her underwear. Many thought this was funny, I thought it was gross and cringed.
Ya can’t get shred in your underwear unless your scratching or touching off limit parts while working on your gift baskets, yuck.

I could tell a dozen more food horror stories. My only question is why don’t people use common sense.
1) Take off your rings before cooking, its cool if you want the ring crumblies in your food, but I think for guest or in a restaurant you should make an exception
2)Come on, ya gotta wash your hands before you pick up the clean gloves, other wise whats the point??
3) Leave your skin cells, butt crack germs, etc out of my food. Keep your hands off of you while cooking my food. If ya gotta scratch or wipe anything, step out of the cooking area, wash hands and then come back. I even apply this rule at home.
4) Its really not cool at any point to lick your fingers while serving food to others, I just don’t want to be that intimate with you.
These are just a few behaviors I have encountered over the years that just amaze me. Well anyway I am done ranting, unfortunately my “Skip this restaurant” list is growing.
To you dining delight

Tell us what you think about blog comment contest & blog parties
Hi fellow bloggers,
I want to know your opinion on blog comment contest and blog parties? I’ve seen comment contest where the prize was as simple as a $25.00 or $50.00 gift card drive lots of traffic to a blogger’s, so it seems like a comment contest can be a great tool if you are able to get the word out about your prize.
If you have done a comment contest what prizes do you give out? Information, cash other give aways? what has worked well for you?
Now onto blog parties. If you have never attended a blog party it is similar to a comment contest in that guest are given prizes for leaving comments on the spot lighted blog.
For example lets say a blog called Vampire-Love-Affair was the blog in the spotlight. This blog owner would select a specific day of the week to invite friends, family, clients etc to visit said blog, with a specific topic themed to be covered on the designated blog party date by the blog owner. Guest are invited to leave comments on that topic either on said blog party date or up to seven days after the blog party. The blog owner chooses maybe two or three of the best comments left by guest and then awards those guest with prizes.
If done properly the blog owner invites his friends, family, clients and they in turn invite others. Not only does the blog party add new comments and traffic to your blog but they also expose your blog to new readers. Some of the blog party sites I’ve seen get sponsors to donate prizes so sometimes the give aways can be pretty big.
To your financial blogging success

What’s the deal with blog linkbacks or backlinks?
In an effort to gain a one up on page ranks spammers have taken to using software to post massive nonsense to thousands of blogs each day. I love traffic as much as the next fellow but I decline to add any of the garbage comments to my blogs, somewhere down the road I am sure these useless comments will in some way hurt the blogs they are posted to in rankings for lack of relevance.
How can you help your own blog and without effort help the blog your are posting to (you know the term “Giver’s Gain)?
1) Consider your niche
2) Set aside a determined amount of time each week to post comments to blogs that are related to your products or niche. For example if you sell audio books you could looks for blogs about books, audio books, MP3, WMA and so on.
3) Leave relevant comments with a link back to your product or blog. People are more likely to visit your site or blog if your comment is not spam.
4) If you have used products that complement yours be sure to leave a review of that product and include your link back.
5) Lastly but not as relevant leave a comment with your link on all blogs you visit
Happy blogging and to your success
